Letters From Australia
Cornwall in the mid 19th century was a place of boom and bust. When tin and copper prices were high it was boom, but when they fell families starved and many were forced to emigrate.
Letters from Australia follows the fortunes of one Cornish family, some of whom took the gamble of free passage to Australia in hope of finding a better future there. The script of the play is derived almost exclusively from letters written back home, as are the lyrics of the original music which animate the audio play throughout.
The story they tell is of hope, homesickness, loss and the indomitable human spirit.
Actors Bec Applebee and Steve Jacobs (Kneehigh, Wildworks, Miracle, etc) with rising star Miles Sloman (Radio 3 Fisherman’s Elegy) animate the letters, with music arranged and performed by Elowen Waters (Three Daft Monkeys) Richard Trethewey (The Rowan Tree) and Neal Jolly (Jolly Good Singing, Natural Voice Network) and Nick Hart. Martin Eddy - himself a direct descendant of the letter-writing dynasty - plays the part of the Agent Latimer.
The audio play Letters From Australia is edited, directed and produced by Nick Hart (composer and musical director Canoryon Lowen) who wrote all the original music.
Consultants Martin Eddy, Dave Hotchkiss and Miles Sloman
